Phase E: Opportunities and Solutions

Phase E is the first phase that does the actual implementation of the Target architecture developed in the previous phases. This phase provides the process to identify major implementation projects and grouping these projects into work packages.

Key activities in this phase are:

• Initial implementation Planning
• Identify Major Implementation Projects
• Group into Work packages
• Decide on approach for the implementation — Make vs buy vs re-use, outsource, COTS, Open Source
• Assess Priorities
• Identify Dependencies

Objectives

• Create Architecture Roadmap based upon GAP analysis and Architecture Roadmap Components from Phase B, C and D.
• Determine if an incremental approach is required to achieve the Target Architecture. If it is required identify the Transition architecture that will delivery business value to the organization.

Approach

Opportunities and Solution Phase provides the process on how to deliver the Target Architecture. It considers Gaps identified in all Architecture domain from the previous phases and groups changes required into work packages.

Below are the four steps in the process that transition from developing to delivering the Target Architecture.

• Architecture Roadmap — List work packages in a timeline
• Work Packages — identifies logical group of changes
• Transition Architecture — a transition state at a architecturally significant state between target and baseline architecture that will add business value
• Implementation and Migration Plan — schedule of project that will realize the Target Architecture
